As part of a Security Systems Architecture Upgrade (SSAU), Crayside Consulting were appointed for the design of modular power and communications buildings at multiple location across site. The modules were modelled using Revit to validate the co-ordination of the services. Power design included LV switchgear, UPS and associated lighting and small power services.
A significant challenge was to ensure compliance to Sellafield standards, which are dated in some cases, for example approach to UPS new technology – a perfect example of standards not keeping up with technological developments.
Cooling and ventilation design was also critical given the nature of the UPS and battery storage.
