As part of a £6.8 million investment from the Department for Transport, Basingstoke station received more than £360,000 to produce a new cycle hub that offers accessibility to more cyclist within the area.
Crayside Consulting's appointment was to undertake the Survey, Civils and SISS design coordinating with design and contruction teams throughout, delivering a combined Form F002/F003 (GRIP 5) and AFC design for the scheme.
Due to the proposed location of the cycle hub, the scheme provided us with engineering challenges our team had to overcome. The proximity to the station canopy and buildings lead to the design of additional structural beams in lieu of support columns. Similarly, the location of the existing station underpass resulted in the development of a complex foundation design to avoid additional surcharge to the underpass structure.
The goal of providing commuters with safe and accessible storage was achieved which will support the ambition for greener travel alternatives for commuters.
Crayside Consulting were proud to be involved with a scheme in such a close proximity to our head office.
